Linda (age 59) and I (age 60) were lucky enough to find out about the Green Horse Ranch riding tours in 2009 after canceling a planned horse trip into another South American country due to concerns with crime and H1N1. What a wonderful stroke of fortune for us. Arrangements with Astrid were fairly easy and she was responsive to our questions prior to booking. We took the nine day tour and could not have been happier with it. We had the good fortune of riding with a young couple from the UK and Australia, a lady from North Carolina, as well as Astrid's new intern, Jeanette. Astrid's friend, Albrecht, did not ride with us but was a great addition to our company in the evenings. From our first night in the cloud forest to our last night in Otovalo we were continually impressed with the friendliness and competence of Astrid and her team. The horses were small by U.S. standards, but tough as nails and even tempered. The two most enduring memories we took home were of the incredible scenery, and of the warm hospitality of our hosts at each night's lodging. The types of lodging varied from somewhat primitive to modern, but at each stop we enjoyed great food, drinks, and clean rooms. Our stay in Ecuador included being there three days before and after the ride and we enjoyed the entire experience. If we are still able in a few years I think we'd like to go back.

The trip to the Pululahua volcanic crater saved our trip to Quito. This ecological reserve North of the city boasts pristine natural beauty. While on Astrid's well trained horses, we saw wildlife, cliffs, jungle, volcanic ruins, archeological ruins, and the cloud forest. My amateur riding skills were more than adequate since the horse, named Apache, was so good natured that I had to do little to keep on pace with the others. We really appreciated Astrid's good customer service in picking us up and dropping us off in central Quito. The food was excellent and our accommodations the best of our entire trip.

My wife, daughter and I had a fabulous day riding today and are very thankful for the great job Rudiger Kessel did in bringing us to and from Quito, and especially leading us on the ride itself. We could not have had a better day. The horses are superb, the scenery spectacular, and the details well taken care of. My 19 year old daughter is an expert rider and was able to ride accordingly with Rudiger, while my wife and I were able to follow appropriately at our lesser abilities and experience.

In bester Erinnerung werden uns die erfahrungsreichen 3 Reittage bleiben. Was ich besonders schätzte, waren die Übernachtungen auf und bei den Hacienden, mit dem krönenden Abschluss der Nacht in Bellavista. Auf den Ritten hattest Du uns jeweils mit einem guten selbstgekochten Mittagessen wieder s definitively my kind of riding! I loved the country, the horses and the company. I only wish I lived closer!

Unsere 2-Tages-Tour ner Einstand, das Land kennenzulernen. Trittsichere, zuverlässige, sensible Pferde l;r jede(n) das Richtige dabei! Natur pur er Pferd lässt sich die Umgebung viel intensiver erleben. Sehr abwechslungsreich: Kraterwand, Bergnebelwald, Schlucht, Fluss (zum Baden), Bananenplantagen, Inkaruine, - die Weite! Hoffentlich nicht das letzte Mal!

Ich kann mich den vorigen nur anschliessen mit meinen Schwärmereien: also es war ganz, ganz toll! Die Tour war super organisiert, die Landschaft (...) ist einfach phantastisch, die Pferde sind total lieb, aber trotzdem temperamentvoll; die Stimmung und das Wetter waren auch super. Abenteuer (-> die Abstiege) und Natur pur! Absolut weiterzuempfehlen!

Après la grève, la vie agitée de Quito et les clous sur la route, ça fait du bien d'être dans ce volcan, au calme et dans la nature. Thanks for an amazing trip! It was a wonderful opportunity to see the "hidden" Ecuador, meet some very cool people, improve my riding, and have my breath taken away on some of those trails. Your calmness and confidence were contagious, making it much easier to enjoy the trails without worrying about the dizzying heights. My fovorite riding moments were the hair pin turns off the cliff and galloping through the sugar cane field (...) Itciting, yet so relaxing. Many, many thanks for exceeding my expectations.

Aquarellas weicher Trab, ohne Waldgeister, die ihr Angst einjagten; Pharaon, der Unermüdliche und so Verlässliche; Antares mi dem Model-Schritt... Wir hatten so viele wunderschöne, zwar zum Teil anstrengende, aber doch sehr erholsame Tage auf dieser Tour. Du hast uns wunderbar betreut und es hat wirklich sehr viel Spass gemacht.

I joined your club on July 24th of this year in preparation for my first trip ever to Ecuador. The trip lasted from Aug. 18 to Sept. 11 and I used your club house in Quito two times. I wanted to report about my experiences with two adventure companies in Quito:

SECOND: Green Horse Ranch
I purchased this company's longest trip called from "Cloudforest to the Highland," a trip of nine days in length (Aug. 21-29). Again I selected this company on the basis of the complete and personal responses I received to my email inquiries. The company is run by a German lady, Astrid Muller. Ms. Muller turned out to be a lively and engaging guide and the trip was exactly as it was described in her web site. The horses were well taken care and in excellent condition, and each person in the group (there were eight of us) was matched with a horse to meet their abilities. This is a trip for people who want to experience a wide variety of terrain and micro climates. The price was quite reasonable for the quality of the horses and the amount of variety you get on the trip, and although this is an adventure trip not a luxury trip, the accommodations were always cozy and the food ranged from good to very good. I highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in a fun and exciting horse adventure in Ecuador, I was very satisfied.

Hola, la gringa loca !! Hallo Astrid, diese Überschrift fand ich in dem "Cavallo" vom Sept. 04 und dachte, das Gesicht kennst Du doch. Ich schreibe Dir das, da ich nicht weiß, ob Du den Artikel hast. Sonst kann ich ihn Dir senden. Den Artikel finde ich sehr gut und zutreffend. Ich hoffe, er hat Dir ein paar Kunden gebracht.
Wir denken immerwieder gern an die Tage bei Dir zurück. Es ist nun schon 5 Jahre her, wie die Zeit vergeht. Leider mußte ich das Reiten aufgeben, da ich vor 2 Monaten die 2. neue Hüfte bekam. Gerade deshalb denke ich noch gerne an unseren Ritt, einer meiner letzten Ritte, vor allem was die Abwechslung und die Schönheit der Landschaft betraf, aber auch dank Deiner lieben Pferdchen. Wenn ich bedenke, dass mein Mann nicht reiten kann und unseren Ritt, samt mehrerer längerer Galopps, mit Freude überstanden hat, ist das schon enorm. Ich habe gerade die Bilder herausgeholt. Unsere Rast mit Blick auf die überwachsenen Inkaruinen war viel schöner, als die Rast im Cavallo. Ob unsere Pferde, die wir geritten sind, noch leben?
Wenn ich 1 Equadorrose kaufe, denke ich immer an Dich.

Hi Astrid,
I have to say I really did enjoy meeting you and your horses. It was fantastic on how smooth the day was with you picking us up and being able to accommodate an extra person at last minute. Gareth and Sarah did go on another horse riding day while on our Ecuadorian experience. They said the horses were not as healthy and the route scenery and trek were not a patch on the day you shared with us. Everyone we have talked to, about the drive down into the crater, passing the bike race, the Inca trails we followed, through the different areas, the open farming grass lands, the dense lush semi-tropical areas punctuated with vibrant flowers with small streams that seemed to be zigzagging across our path. All under blue skies with rolling fluffy clouds. Then there was the simple sensational lunch. We did not get corn cakes as good anywhere else in Ecuador as we did for that lunch. The wild coffee I purchased has been measured out and given to different friends and colleagues, whom all raved about it.
Again thank-you so much for such a memorable day, my first horse riding experience in such an amazing place. Health and happiness for the future.
